Hello,
I am Mansa Kashyapa and I’m the second generation owner of this family run leather trading business. The founding directors are my parents, CMN Shastry and Shobha Shastry along with Mr GK Bhat, a close family friend. They were pioneers in bringing Italian leather for upholstery to India, way back in the early 90’s.
I was born into a leather family and have grown up around hides. While I played hide and seek then, little did I know that my future will involve seeking hides 🙂 With the strong foundation of Club Collections, the parent Company, there grew a vision in me for Hideitalia.
I am a designer who is passionate about design and sustainability. All my projects in NIFT revolved around this and I count myself as very lucky to have the opportunity to work with leather. I’m extremely fascinated with this ancient craft and the possibilities that it comes with. Leather can be a designer’s dream material for upholstery and with my in-depth knowledge and supply base, I’m on a mission to inspire, guide and make the best selection of leather available for all the creative souls out there.
I’m also on a mission to tell the truth about leather. Leather is a sustainable choice for multiple reasons and unfortunately there are so many myths that have tarnished the image of the world’s oldest form of upcycling. Leather has played an extremely important role in the evolution of mankind and I’m looking forward to sharing the leather story.
I want my work to matter. Empowerment of the suppressed, equal opportunity and inclusive employment are issues I deeply care about. A portion of profits from Hideitalia sales will be channeled towards these causes, so that we can together make a difference to our world and our environment while crafting one of a kind masterpieces!
